Captain Rommy Pyatt Bio
Rommy L. Pyatt was born and raised in Sandy Island, South Carolina. As a native, Pyatt grew up enjoying the uniqueness that comes with living the remote Island – beautiful whites sands, surrounded by live oak, greeting visitors at the waterfront. Pyatt believes that growing up on the quaint Island and the wholesome upbringing by his parents gave him an excellent foundation for life.
Pyatt attended Waccamaw Elementary and Middle School and graduated from Georgetown High School, class of 1993. Upon completion of high school, Pyatt followed his dreams of becoming an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force. He honorably served his country on Active Duty status from 1993-1997. During this time, Pyatt also earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Limestone College. After his active duty service, Pyatt returned home and joined the Air Force Reserves, serving with the 81 Aerial Port Squadron at Charleston AFB, South Carolina. In February 2019, Pyatt retired with 25 years of faithful service.
Throughout his career, Pyatt could not fight the urge to return to Sandy Island and remained an active member of the Sandy Island community. Pyatt recalls his father’s words, “Son, this is your home, and you’re living on a gold mine,” which stuck with the Sandy Island Native. Pyatt said he always heard his uncle mention that tourists were looking to visit Sandy Island, so he captured that vision and launched Tours de Sandy Island.
